Make Your Own Website Search Engine Hungry…

As time goes on, you will see that there are two phrases which sound very similar but are not to be confused. When you make your own website, you can make it ’search engine friendly’ or you can make it (what I like to call) ’search engine hungry’, which in the SEO world means Search Engine Optimized. If your site is search engine friendly then this basically means that when you make your own website you will have included the meta tags, header tags, and perhaps site maps and a robots.txt. If that last sentence went straight over your head then forget I said it, FOR NOW…. We’ll get the basics under our belt first, but if you want your website to stand out you will need to keep coming back to Articles And Products and learn the above, and more.

So, if you’re now thinking you need all that to make your own website search engine friendly then what the hell do you have to do to make it search engine hungry? You’ll find the answers in these next tips.

Tip 3: Web site Optimzation.
This is a huge subject and one which is ever-changing so it’s not possible to fit everything into a paragraph but in summary, Optimizing your website for search engines is all about taking your SE friendly website and getting it to the next level. You do this first of all by ensuring that your content is really relevant to your well chosen keywords. You will also need to include your keywords (and variations of them) within your header tags. Don’t just use a H1 tag here, Continue throughout with an H2, H3 etc. The next big thing is internal linking. Design your site and it’s content so that pages point to other relevant pages within it. Make sure that your pages aren’t too many clicks away from your homepage. And now for the BIGGY…  Link Text.

1) name your web-page after your keyword
2) When you create a link to an inside page, create it using the targeted keywords for that page. For example, let’s assume you have an info’ site about parrots and called it myparrotsite.com, and one of your inside pages is about amazon parrots.

From your homepage you could have a link to an internal page like this:

<a href=”article12345.html”>article12345</a> - Displayed as Article12345

Or you could immediately tell the visitor and the SE’s exactly what your page is about by linking with your keywords like this.
<a href=”Amazon_Parrots.html” mce_href=”Amazon_Parrots.html”>Amazon Parrots</a> - Displayed as Amazon Parrots

The same method applies when you get other sites to link to yours. Where possible get links with keyword targeted link text rather than just the name of your website/page.

O.K people, i’ve run out of time for now but I’ll continue this in my next post and then we’ll start looking at something a little more interesting. In the mean time, take some tutorials with your website creator and try to make your own website (just a couple of sample pages to get the feel of it) there’s no need to go buying a domain name just yet. Many people in the IM world favour Dreamweaver and i’m one of them. But, it’s not cheap and you can use just about anything.
