Moving On To Affiliate Income.

So we’ve done Adsense and by now you should have a reasonable idea of how to get a site created, indexed and generating a little income. The beaty of this is once you know the basics you can simply rinse and repeat. Just a quick plug here again - Make this so much easier and join Super Apprentice.

Anyway, Affiliate income. I have chosen my topic and in all honesty it wasn’t in the usual way. What you should do is have a look on somewhere like Clickbank and see what products are available for your chosen niche. Check out the payout (don’t go with anything less than $10 per sale) and see how well they convert, look at the gravity. Another sneaky thing you can do here do a search in Google for the product and look at the adverts appearing for that product. Note which ones are affiliate links and monitor them over a couple of weeks. If they are still there after that time then the odds are they are making money. No-one in their right mind will leave an Adsense campaign up and pay per click if it’s not turning a profit.

So my chosen niche is Parrot Training, why? I have a parrot called Jester. He is a Blue-Fronted Amazon and a pain in the a**. He bites everyone except me (even me sometimes), he screams, he poops on me, he chews anything that isn’t metal. I’ve had him for years and I love him but I decided to get something done. I did a quick search on Google and found birdtricks.com. The site is a classic pitch from a clever Internet Marketer but the fact is I handed over my credit card even though I knew how the sales pitch works in the IM world. What did this tell me?

Either that I was stupid for falling for it (we’ll see) or that birdtricks was offering a solution to a common problem. Parrot behaviour is an issue for thousands of owners and not everyone is able to hire a specialist to visit their home every week. This site offers a DVD training set and audio course for a reasonable price and as an owner I know that anyone in my shoes would jump at the chance to own this information. Anyway, long story short, I found there was an affiliate program that offers 50% commission on each sale.

So my intention here is to build a site about parrot behaviour initially. Although SEO will feature into this I am going to approach it slightly differently and also incorperate some PPC advertising to bring some quick traffic to my site. As well as keeping the site updated with my parrots progress I will add video’s of my parrot doing all the things he shouldn’t to sites such as Youtube and Squidoo. Some of these are funny (ever known a parrot to have his own plate at dinner time and whose favourite dinner is Spaghetti Bolognaise?) and should generate a little interest.

This will take some time as I have to fit it in with my other projects but this is the basic outline of my plan. Just one word of warning, be VERY careful before using PPC (Pay Per Click) to drive traffic to your site. It can prove VERY expensive if you don’t know what you are doing.

 Over and Out.
